The Gut and Trauma
In this episode of Season 1 of ‘The Beyond Resilience Life Podcast,’ I am thrilled to share a conversation with one of the psychologists I admire most! Dr. Nicole LePera, also known as ‘The Holistic Psychologist (her IG and YouTube acct handle).
Dr. LePera believes that mental wellness is for everyone. She is a formally trained psychologist who evolved into acknowledging the connection between mind and body. She views mental and physical struggles from a different perspective where balance is an integral part of wellness. She empowers individuals to heal themselves supporting them on their own wellness journeys. She is the creator of the #selfhealers movement on Instagram.
In today’s show, we get into a really interesting topic which is ‘the gut and trauma’ and how she is helping people heal from these problems. Nicole also shares some of her go-to techniques and skills and how she has been able to create new meaning and transformations based on overcoming these problems.
Some recommendations from Nicole:
Avoid processed foods, gluten and oils because of direct implication on gut damage and its cumulative consumption is what affects gut health. The trick is not to deprive yourself of it completely, but instead, being aware of its effects.
Nicole suggests the following books:
‘The Body Keeps the Score’ by Bessel van der Kolk
‘A Man’s Search for Meaning’ by Viktor Frankl
‘The Untethered Soul’ by Michael Singer
Self Observation by Red Hawk
The Leap by Steve Taylor
and the documentary ‘Heal’ on Netflix.
